Starting out

You want everything in your tank when you cycle. Like rocks, sand, heater, poweheads. Lights aren't needed. Petco and petsmart are a no no. I used something like For my rock. There are more expensive options also for sure
Petsmart does not carry marine fish. Petco does and I had one local that was as good as any LFS, got familiar with the young lady running the marine section and found she was very knowledgeable about reefs. The animals were well cared for and I still have many corals and fish from her 6 years later. So don't say petco is bad when some are actually good. Well needless to say she got burnt out from the other staff who would not take care of the animals like she had asked and quit working there. After that they went downhill fast and my last purchase was a yellow tang 4 years ago skinny with shredded fins, I had some words with management and got her for $10. Now she is fat and happy, never got sick. Now they have a private contracter to manage the marine animals and now the tanks looks amazing. I just may buy there again.

Ended up ordering and got a TDS Meter today. Tested the water from the tap and it comes out 65ppm and tested the RODI water I made last week and that comes out to 0 PPM :)

Just got this today 75 gallon tank, stand, 20 gallon sump (fiji) and a bunch of live rock. Wont be able to set it up for a while but got a start. Also has most of the plumbing.

A few assorted PVC pieces in the QT to give livestock a place to hide, without the danger that live rock would have in case you need to medicate. You'll also want bio media for the HOB filter.

Is it me but why does BRS only have unions in scedual 80 and not in 40. Grrr the guy i got the tank from cut the pvc a little to close to at least one union. So means I have to replace the union and the entire thing.

So wanting to use the titatium heaters from BRS on this tank but right now they seem mostly out of stock on them. Is there a good alternative if they do not get them back at some reasonable point? For my 75 gallon setup not for the ten gallon QT

Eheim Jagers - recommend sizing down 1-2 levels from the chart and getting 2. Also, a temp controller if you’re not running a whole tank controller

I see BRS has the 100w heaters in for the titanium ones. those are rated for 40 gallon tanks. Wonder if two of them would work for 75 gallon plus a 20 gallon sump. In the winter do tend to have a be a bit on the cool side inside running in the 60's.

Going to be using robotank and reef PI but think will still use their temp heater controller.

This is the sump I am using, this was a picture from the guy who owned it before. What section should the heaters go in? Currently the sump is 100 percent empty.

Also looking for the best testing kits? Prefer digital if possible my close up vision is not the greatest any more.

Would love to be able to use a 40 gallon tank for a sump. Yet the stand I have for the 75 gallon tank does not have enough room to hold a 40 gallon sump, Well unless there is a sump that is a little longer then wide. Maybe I should try to build my own stand to be able to hold a 40 gallon sump.

Or would a 40 gallon sump be overkill?
