Hello everyone. Recently broke down my 150 gal tank for a move. So I'm starting from scratch. My buddy gave me a canister filter with a 14 watt uv light. I was wondering if I can incorporate the canister filter. I was thinking of using the sump as biological filter and the canister as a chemical filter and uv sterilize? I do my maintanace evet 2 weeks which will now include cleaning the canister. Is this doable? Would love to hear from readers that run canisters on thier reefs.

Very doable. A member in LARC is doing the same. Personally, I have a fluval fx-4 on my biocube now. Plan on sumping it soon.

I know you want advice from those that run a canister filter, but gotta keep in mind that it'll be one more thing to clean. Depending on how you plan on using it, it could potentially build up nutrients in it (but so can the sump, lol).

Canister , pain in butt to clean and re-prime but beneficial as a supplemental filter. UV is a plus. Focus though on primary filtration.
