Hello All!

I have a 75 gallon tank. Been Up and running for 2 months now.. I had gotten a couple tangs and some fish but sadly one of them had Flukes and basically all but my damsels have died. I currently have 3 damsels and 1 hawkfish. Also have 2 cleaning shrimp and some crabs & snails.

After having purchased a few fish that were not what I was told, and didn't go well together... and were sick I've given up on taking advice from the fish store employees!

What fish do you recommend for a first time reefer? I love corals and am wanting to start getting into those a lot so coral friendly fish please!

Also do you recommend I get rid of the damsels? They kind of hog all the food and am worried that might have also been a contribution to my fishes dying.

Also i keep my temp at 79 and the salt levels are about 1.027 Is this where they should be?

Thanks in advance for all the help ! I have TONS of questions.

Damsels don't just hog the food, they're also vicious! But there is one type of damsel that's a great reef and community tank inhabitant, the clown fish! It's a classic beginner fish, and who wouldn't want one? Or two? Gobies are great beginner fish, 6 line wrasse is good if you don't plan on adding any other wrasses. McCoskers flasher wrasse is good if you do. Damsels don;t really play nice with othert fish though, so you'll likely want to remove them.

For future reference, that clown tang can grow over a foot and was far too small for your system. Although that's after the fact now I'm just letting you know because you may still be unaware. Good luck with the tank :)

I was told he was a different kind of fish :( I've learned to do my own research now..

Welcome aboard!

Sorry for the losses and rough start you had. R2R is the right place to help you succeed.

For some beginer fish ideas, Go to liveaquaria.com they have a category for beginner marine fish. Still research here as some may be aggressive and you may wish to avoid.

Also, don't miss all the stickies on the to saltwater forum. Tons of info to learn even for experienced reefers.

Welcome to R2R
