After a failed attempt to reboot my tank a few months ago, i have decided to start over again. I tried to go 100% sterile. Clean dry rock, zero sand/substrate. Adding only a few fish and microbacter7. The first 2 weeks went well, but then all of a sudden i developed super cloudy water and a super gross film of algae. Did a water changes and nothing happened, still remained cloudy and algae film was still there. Same situation that happen to the guys at BRS. Waited approx 4 months then decided to break down the tank. This time around I plan on getting Aussie live rocks and i will be using CaribSea live sand.
New piece of equipment arrived today.

Sounds like you had a bloom. I would reduce or turn off lights for a couple of days as look at filters which may need a cleaning.
Does tank utilize a sump?
Also is tank at or near a window?

I had the same thing happen a few months ago. It wasn't a bad bacterial bloom but noticeable. Lost a big colony of hammer but saved some of it. Had to take the tank down. Good thing I had 2 more running.

Purchased some Indo live rocks to seed the tank. So far all is going well.
