Starting up a frag tank thats inexpensive

SO I've been putting in a lot of thought on how to help my boyfriend start up a frag tank thats inexpensive but still good quality. Anybody have any ideas on how to achieve this?

Depends on your budget and the corals you will be keeping. I use to use a 20g long aqueon from petco $/gallon sale, a koralia powerhead, koralia nano skimmer, heater, diy egg crate frag rack, and a cheap t5 fixture. Diy stand with 2x4.

Jason fox uses a 29g biocube for a QT tank, kind of a sleeker all in one option but more expensive. Could also go with an innovative marine all in one like nuvo 20. Next step up is plumbed tank with sump and the works etc.

We already have a skimmer that is way to big for our little 29 gallon biocube, we were thinking about just letting it run with our frag tank. what are your ideas on just going to home depot and getting a shallow 40 gallon storage tub and using that? we have lights taken care of as well.

I have used a 75g rubbermade troft from tractor supply. Theoretically, you can use any food safe container, however depending on which storage you are referring to from home depot, it could bow/spill water if you fill it more than half way.
