Starting with a 40 Breeder Build

Well... I finally able to test my refractometer with a new solution.
But 1st I calibrated again with Brightwell solution that I have been using to 35ppt.

Then I dropped the new solution by Aqua Craft.
Showing 37ppt. Dun dun dun....

Which one should I trust???

But I tend to trust this new solution... Cause everytime I tested my alkalinity on a new mixed Tropic Marin Pro reef saltwater, its showing 6.4 or lower..

And my apex conductivity is showing 32.7

I calibrated the refractometer with the new solution and tested my tank water....
Yup it is 33ppt.

So.. I have been mixing my saltwater lower than I want it...

Finally my alkalinity issue with this tank is answered.

Stupid brightwell solutions..
I actually Calibrate mine with rodi water. Just set it to the lowest and I think that’s good

Today's Tests are done.
  • Alk: 6.4dKh
  • PO4: 0.07
  • Nitrate: 5
  • Calcium: 443
  • Magnesium: 1290 (1st test)
  • Salinity: 32.7(Apex) 33(refratometer)

Finally open the blackout
All the fishes survive!!
Now I just need to wait until the lights on to check the corals

So finally took the plunge and bought the apex jebao adapter.
It was pretty funny when I turned it on the 1st time. The frickin jebao was coughing. LoL.
Fortunately, I found out that the pump is controlled by 2 variable output ports.
And I plugged it in the v3/v4 so. V3 controlled the speed and v4 controlled the polarity it seems. Set that on 0 and its working as normal.
Now just need to play around with the speed.

Additionally I had enough with the waterfall sound of the overflow weir.
So... I wanted to increase the height of the pipe inside the back overflow. Cant really pull it out since I stupidly cement it.
And I had a union laying around. So I used 1 end of it.

Bam increased water level. I confirmed that it won't spill outside the box. It comes close to the top. But with the lid on it, it won't spill out.

I think today I hit a milestone in my reefing journey. I am starting to see copepods.
Lights just turned on and I noticed lots of small white dots on the glass. I thought it was just dirty... Then they are moving!!!.

If I can redo this tank, I would have plumb 2 return line, then connect uv directly on 1 of them.

FTS Saturday.. after water change.

BTW.. I think my YWG has an outgoing personality.

Hopefully he will come down when I get him a pistol shrimp.
