Hey there,
I am starting a new tank that will be primarily a Zoa garden and looking for advice regarding getting good colors, prices, possible issues to expect with keeping a zoa garden? What starter types would you guys recommenced that can be found at good prices and are colorful? I don't mind buying colonies either if I can get a good variety/size
Specs:
Lighting 1 AI Prime HD LED (Could go to 2)
Nuvo 20 gallon peninsula
30lbs Caribsea Life Rock
20lbs Pink Caribsea sand
Vortech Mp-10 (may add a small hydor nano 425gph if needed or helpful)
ATO Tunze
Filter media: custom caddy with Chemi-pure blue nano, filter floss, and marinepure bioballs.

Edit: The name of the tank will be The Buttwhole tank because my girlfriend pointed out that zoa's look like colorful butt holes

So many types of zoas that fall under colorful and inexpensive. If you're doing a zoa garden, options are endless.

Agreed that options are endless. I snagged a 3 polyp of pink diamonds for 25 bucks at a frag swap. Scrambled eggs I got 2 polyps for 50 bucks. Rastas I found locally for 5 peen polpy (usually 10 or More per polyp)

Be selective with the varieties you put in there. Research them, as some can be very aggressive and overgrow others. I go by polyp size first and color second when grouping them. Also, don't be tempted to buy some frags just because they are cheap if they are not ones that you really want, many times those are the fast growers and soon you will be asking how to get them out. 2o gallons is a nice size, but you will run out of realestate fast.
I set up an 80g 18 months ago for this same reason, and finally now, are zoanthids starting to grow. SPS and LPS were doing great, just needed the tank to mature for the zoas.
