So I am reading a lot of mixed care instructions for stereonephthya. Is it photosynthetic, is in NPS, high light, low light, no light? I'm looking for some feedback on people who have successfully kept them long term. Generally I wouldn't get something I don't know much about. But I needed $5 more to qualify for free shipping and it was the only thing that caught my eye lol.

I have read LA'S care, but I have also read very conflicting care from other sites. Even people that have had them seem to disagree on care lol. I guess my main concern is placement. I have no issues feeding since I have others I have to feed anyway. But I was really hoping to stick it in a cave that needs color, but since it might also need high lighting idk. I guess I could always start it out in the cave and move it until it looks happy.

I purchased one and it was just delivered. It is gorgeous and it was pretty inexpensive. It is floating now and I'm considering placement. Like you, I've read the conflicting advise.
Can you tell me how your experimentation worked out?
Mine is Orange BTW.

Id go with this one for info.. https://reefbuilders.com/2015/12/10/stereonephthya-portrait-uncommon-soft-coral/

I wish I could give you more info, but when mine arrived it was half disintegrated and did not make it:(
gorgs and NPS put out quite a bit of ammoina i found out. poor packing(like you would a zoa), probably not a good thing.
bummer.

Huh, I did not know that about the ammonia! See, you never stop learning;) It definitely was poorly packaged.

Both of your statements worry me. I also bought 2 zoas and it was packaged exactly the same. When I dipped it prior to putting in my tank I noticed some loss of flesh in the water. Letting it rest through the night in the dark and will check in morning. Hoping she just needs a good night sleep and a nice breakfast!

This reminds me of the carnation coral, Dendronephthya carnation corals. I got a pink one before. It was the $1/day coral for me! for some people it was $2/day......

Where did you order from? I got mine from aquariumdepot knowing full well they had a horrible reputation, but wanting to give them a shot anyway since my 1st cuc came in good shape. I think I have 1 coral left that made it out of the 10 or so I ordered. They did give me some store credit that I used on a cuc that also arrived mostly dead. Obviously I am done ordering from them lol. I hope yours pulls through, they are beautiful corals!

Ok, let's say so far I'm disappointed. The package arrived late, 453 pm, on 3rd day of shipping. All of the items were individually bagged in small bags with about 4-6 oz of water in each. All bags were the same size, 2 zoas, 2 feather dusters, 1 stereo. The 2 feather dusters were both out of their casings. After quick research, I decided to try to put them back. I needed to cut the end of the casing back to get them in. The stereo, I already described it's flaking/shedding skin. The zoas were closed ( no big deal). About 20% of the 500 pod pack were dead.
As of this am, when i left home, the zoas had not yet opened, now I'm worried. The stereo looks like a beaten punching bag, The one feather lost its "feathers" while the other is weepy.
Yes, this is Aquarium Depot.
maybe I need to stick with my LFS?
Maybe I should've searched threads for suggested online sites?

Not happy. Both feather dusters dead. My previously healthy red bubble anemone looks shriveled and weak. Removed dusters and stereonephthya and transplanted them into a garbage bag.

jeez. did you take pics? sounds like refund time.
the other concern would be freezing depending on where you are.

No picts on first arrival and that is required for refund. I do plan to write Aquarium Depot and see if they can at least give me some store credit or something. I've only met very honest, high integrity people in this hobby and even with my concerns, I can't believe this was intentional. So right now I am discouraged, disappointed, but somehow, not angry. If my anemone dies, I may become angry.
Hopefully, the water change and charcoal change will prevent that.

Anemone looking better. and one small polyp open on each zoa. Color

need a quick response. I received a replacement stereonephthya. It arrived unglued from the frag plug. Should I glue it back to plug or try to glue directly to my liverock?
