After a long hiatus from the reefing hobby I finally started a reef tank 4 months ago. Did my first test today and it got me thinking about how sterile my old testing equipment really is. It has been sorting out in a Tupperware container with no lid and collecting dust and cat hair. I know the equipment is free of reef pests but what else could be growing on them in a years time?

I looked on Amazon and found bottle sterilizing equipment for pretty cheap. Some are electric and some you add water and put in your microwave to sterilize them with steam.

Has anyone ever used these sterilizers or the uv light sterilizers to clean test equipment? I'm sure you can easily make a microwavable one out of a Tupperware dish and bottle holder instead of buying online. I know we are not testing for serious human/animal related things but I'm just curious about this. I have not seen this posted on R2R yet, at least from what I saw in the search results.

Wipe down with iso alcohol. Don’t use till it’s evaporated.
Or clean in water and vinegar.
No need to buy all that stuff
