Hello, my name is Johnny. I am new to the hobby. I have my tank up and running now about a month. I have checked the forums from time to time to do research. I have found Steves LED’s and purchased it for my RSM 130D. I have tried calling and messaging them but have not received any replies. I wanted to reach out to this community in hopes of more informations.

So I recently received the upgrade kit with the iridescent purple lights add on. I installed everything with supplied materials with the guide. Everything went well but when I went to turn on the HurricaneX controller it popped and smoke came out. I got terrified and unplugged it and waited 10mins. Then I tried to plug it in again and everything actually turned on and seems to be working. There was a post here stating it can happen if there was a wrong ac adapter was used. I did not use anything other than what was supplied of course. Should I be concerned?

Another thing is I noticed the LED with the upgrade should have 4 Royal Blue LEDs swapped out for 4 UV purple LEDs. When I tinkered with settings while monitoring the lights, I have not seen any purple lights at all.
Is there any way to confirm this or visually I should see purple lights?

I am a bit discouraged because when I ordered them was 12/22/21 and did not receive my lights until 1/11/22. I was so excited but then the pop and burnt smell of the controller freaked me out. Next I find another post on here that questions the purple iridescent light upgrade. Seems similar to my scenario.

Thank you all in advance for the assistance.

Popping, smoke, and burnt smell is Never a good thing.

Yes, it doesn’t feel comfortable at all. I’m afraid my corals would die so I have it running. I did not want to take it all apart yet until they respond. Just hope it doesn’t blow up while I am at work. Only thing is it has been 8 days since and still no reply from phone or email.

I had an older version for a RSM C-250 (2015 ish). I was having a problem with a channel last year and tried to get support. It was several weeks until I got any response at all, such that I had decided to scrap it and move on.

It worked OK while I had it, but just OK - I don't know that it was worth the price paid but opinions may differ.

My nanocube upgrade kit was working for several months and now stopped working. Also no replies on emails for a couple weeks. I had to buy a standard LED light.
