I have a Tunze 9012 in my 90 gallon mixed reef. It pulls out a lot of dark skimmate but I have to run it inside he display. I have a Trigger sump 26 but it is to tall to run inside the sump. I wanted to get some input if it is worth having a big black box in the tank or should I look into an in sump skimmer...

That's a sweet skimmer. Why not feed water into a container that maintains the proper water level and place it into the sump. Place the skimmer into said container. Tunze has a container for the 9004 for sump applications, I think it's called the 9404. Check it out for inspiration.

I'd ditch the sump and turn your 9012 into a Reefpack 500 by adding the filter module......ATO too if you don't have one. The filter module will hide your ATO sensors.

Then you don't need the drain box or the sump.

I'd swap for a Tunze 9410 if you really want the sump.

The 9400 chamber is a good idea but the pump is sized for the smaller skimmer....seems like I saw they a bigger one shown at Interzoo but I couldn't swear to it.
