Sticks startin to turn white on tips

particularly my poneapes birdnest. I can keep LPS and zoas all day but everytime I try to get sticks to live they dont work out so good. I know that sps likes clean water so I have been doing 7 gallon water changes on my 22 gallon aquarium once a week and have a 150 w halide with a 12 w LED supplement bar for lighting. Running carbon and chemipure and have i believe its called the os 101 wavemaker to produce wonderful flow in the tank.

I dont have a way to really test the phosphates and just ran out of my calcium test kits, but with the 30-40% water changes happening every week I dont really see how my readings could get terribly out of whack. My poneape was to a spot that every point had split into two points and was looking amazingly healthy and now its starting to fade white and is especially noticeable at the tips almost like scales of white around the tips, and I'm really freaking out because since the poneape was growing well I went and purchased 5 new sps frags and now I'm just starting to panic.

I'm not going to do anything drastic or irrational, I've already done a large water change and want to leave it at that for a day at least but is there any general advice to keeping sps, or even trick to hopefully turning this around that anyone can give me.

I know we like to have as much details about the tank as possible in these posts so I tried to provide, my water chemistry is fine which is why i added flow a couple months ago and now it seems that something is still off!

Agreed the white tips could be growth, as a side not you may want to do smaller water changes every week because larger water changes weekly can actually do more harm than good...I stick with a small percentage around 10 percent, big water changes could mean less stability in your system, no stability = angry sps

My internet is going in and out, I'm tryin to upload pics, thanks for the advice on water changes, I will say that the difference between these white tips and normal new growth white tips is that the entire frag is fading in colour and the white is a good centimeter or two of white

can either be growth or alk is too high

Do you mix the salt in the package before you put it in the ro/di water? Sometimes salt can have "hot spot's" where either cal,mag or alk can be much higher. If the tips are turning white with polyps it could be growth....If the tips are white and look dead my guess would be high alk. What brand salt do you use, and do you buy it by the bucket,bag or box?
