Most reef systems run a sump to hold all the filtration. Generally they are under the tank in the stand or in a room behind the tank. What is your question?

All the filtration is run on the sump and a refugium is a section that runs macro algeas to help manage nutrient export. That's the section that has the red light over it bc red helps grow the algae.

I saw your other post. You will understand this all better when the seller comes and sets the tank up for you. See it working in person and then come back with any specific questions you have. We are all here to help you...

Thank you to all that have advice this is awesome website. And my question basically is how it all works. Like I mentioned I don’t know anything about any of this stuff so I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions. My experience goes as far as those hanging gimmicks off back of tank

You may find this R2R article on sumps helpful --

Refugium is simply a section of a sump or a remote tank attached to a main system. The refugium allows for a space to grow macro algae or a deep sand bed as a nutrient export and/or a space for organisms to reproduce and feed the main system without predation.
