Still finding new hitchhikers 18 months later

I cannot believe it has been 18 months since I added rock from KP Aquatics, or that I am still finding new hitchhikers that I suspect came in with the rock. In the last two months, I have spotted a new crab and a new worm that I haven't identified yet. Both hide so fast, I barely catch a glimpse of them, let alone get a decent picture.

On Monday, and again tonight before lights out, I spotted a snail that is maybe 1/4 inch long. Based on the size, I am guessing it was breed in my tank and it is probably a whelk. Hopefully I spot it again soon and can get a better look at it.

I was going to say it looks like a whelk. I still find the odd hitchhiker in my tank even with dry rock (bristleworm), though my very effective crew of wrasses keeps the numbers very low.

Well, that mystery is solved. Definitely a whelk.

I kept one in my sump for a while that liveaquaria shipped me instead of the hermit crab I ordered. It’s a bummer that they’re predatory because their markings are really cool.

This is the beauty of live rock - you’ll never stop finding new things. I have new macro growing I’ve never seen before (not in 30 years in the hobby) and multiple SPS and LPS colonies that have appeared over time from live rock, along with lots of other things. It’s always too cool! God created an unreal variety of critters

Yeah, I wish I knew that when I started. My wife laughs at me when I am at the tank in the middle of the night with a red light and magnifying glass. After three plus years, I would say that has been the most interesting part of the hobby. I tried to talk my daughter into converting her freshwater tank to saltwater, just so I had an excuse to order more live rock.

There are a ton of little feather dusters on the KP rock that I hadn't noticed until a few months ago. I suspect the crab I saw may be another gorilla crab since I found four of them while the rock was in QT. I am a little concerned about the worm. I suspect it may be no bueno, but I need a better look at it.
