STILL LIKE YOUR-Gyre XF150 ???

I keep procrastinating,..... about buying the Gyre for the 125g we're setting up, but what keeps me from buying is the $300 cost, and if there's been any problems with it being new.

In the long run, it'll cost less that several power heads and/or a wave maker.

So, any of you that have had one since they came out with it, do you still like it and any issues so far ?

No issues what so ever.
CoralVue addressed all questions from extension cords for the controller to a stronger magnet for thicker glass.
Waiting for the FX130 for the back wall that I'll
Setup through the apex.

I still like mine. Probably more now then when I got it as I have it positioned better. Didn't like having to buy the bigger magnet, and even then it's weak on 3/4" glass - I used a sticky zip tie mount under the outside magnet to help keep it in position.

Do they recommend a certain extension cord ?

What thickness glass, what size tank do you have and how much was the stronger magnets ?

The 150 is not enough, so you need a second but smaller Gyre (again what size tank) ?

Is one 150 not enough for my 125g ?
It will me mostly community fish tank but,....with leathers, shrrooms, a few LPS's and Anemone's for our clown fish.

NO SPS's in this tank.

I just can't see buying two MP-40's at $300 EACH,....VS one Gyre for $300.

Your 125 needs only one gyre.
I have a 200 and the FX150 takes all the work away from the 5 mp40's I had in there.
Just want some cross flow as I put the FX130 on the back wall.
Some ppl have a fish room and the 6' foot cord that comes with it is to short.

With no sps a gyre should be more than enough. I am running one plus 2 mp40s in my 120 that is 4ft long - but I like tons of flow. I can't even tell the mp40s are running the gyre is so strong. I would try 1 and see if you need another, but I doubt you will. Stronger mag was $60 and my glass is 3/4" starfire.

Love mine. Anemone moved because of too much flow and I had to turn it down because my LPS hated the increased flow. I have mine at 30% now on pulse mode. Almost have no dead spots but do have one on part of the back wall that the rock work blocks. May get the 130 when the Maxpect controller comes out. I have a 4x2x2 120g.

I just spoke with a friend, and he said to consider 2 of the Jeabo RW-15's. And it has many types of adjusting flow's, and including a night mode.

Amazon has them for $84 each. The RW's are a lot better now than their WP pumps.

Hum,.....?

Sorry but won't comment on that as your original thread will refer only to the Gyre (STILL LIKE YOUR-Gyre XF150 ???)
I'm afraid this thread will turn into a back on forward what will be better or bad pump.
For that reason I'm out......... or start a new thread and ask opinions on several wave makers.

Just my 2-cents...

While I can understand the allure of the Jeabo based on the low cost, there's a reason they are cheap... if you go that route bye a couple of backups, at the same time if you do that, its almost a wash and you could have just as easily gone with a better unit to begin with.

Jeabo are fine pumps and push a ton of water for the money. Quality longevity and all that aside, remember they are conventional (well modern conventional DC prop) powerhead pumps. If you were looking at mp40's then I would suggest looking at them, but gyre is more about the type of flow rather than pure gallons per hour with the super wide discharge to move the entire water column. For the same amount of movement you would need a lot more than 2 of them. They are pretty similar to mp40's flow rate and the gyre totally overpowers the 2mp40s I am running with it. I could consider 4 of the jeabo not two. But then again I like flow.

2 RW20's would be better, but again it's the type of flow. The gyre is a big deal because you can really get that style with anything else unless you spend a lot of time picking the right powerhead and putting them all in a row - even then they won't work quite as well.

I'm still really happy with mine, I've broke it down and cleaned it once since I purchased it. So it's been running since early November I think. Regarding the magnets, it will work in the horizontal position on 3/4" glass but the connection is really weak, the pump pushing itself against the glass is the only thing keeping it in place. On 3/4" or even 5/8" you can't run it vertically or it flies off above 40% power.

I still love mine....I spent so much time changing the position of my previous 4 powerheads trying to get the perfect flow. With the Gyre I just turn it on

I removed all of the other Koralias that I was running. Not only is the flow perfect almost everywhere, but the tank looks much cleaner without all the various powerheads and cords everywhere.

I've got 2 XF150's running on my 300 gallon peninsula 96"X30"X24"tall. One is mounted on the overflow box vertically, running on alternating gyre mode @80% alternating every 2 minutes. Then the other is mounted to my center brace also running on alternating gyre mode @ 40% alternating every 5 minutes. Before I got the gyres I was running 2 vortech MP60's. I was never truly happy with the flow I got from the vortechs. But now I couldn't be happier with the gyres. I just wish the gyres had a better controller that could go into a night mode.
Plus the fact on how much cleaner the tank looks with out have pumps at the peninsula end.

How do you have the 2 -mp40s setup? Both on same side?

Awesome! I've got a 180g reef, and my gyre (I only have one) is currently mounted on the left side, but I've been considering a center mount on the brace. Would you recommend that?
