Stimulus check for Reefing

RussiReef,
The frags I got from you yesterday are doing well. Thank you for the generous size frag of orange passion.

+1. Yes, we have no idea how long this will last, months or ? Prepare now.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I have been consulting with some friends who are Doctors and they paint a really grim picture. I won't depress anyone with the details but I will say that they are talking about highs and lows in the infected numbers that will cause starts and stops in the economy. Basically they cannot see an end game unless a vaccine is produced and distributed to at least 50% of the population.

Support your LFS, most were operating on razor thin profit margins before covid, my favorite store is days away from closing their doors for good unless they get a serious influx of cash. These checks are meant to stimulate the economy, hence the name stimulus, not savings.

I barely made the threshold to receive a check, but it was nice and I supported my LFS today. I also plan to buy some stocks, it’s like saving but more stimulating to the economy, this is a great time to buy. Think of what stores or companies are still open and have tons of customers, imagine what their earnings report will be at the end of the quarter, buy those, make bank.

That’s how it’s been done in the past.

I’m not completely sure but I thought I read this one is handled differently.
It’s helicopter money from my understanding. I can’t wait to see how the IRS handles it tax time lol

It’s not taxable or claimed as”income”
And we don’t have to pay it back...
I just got my money... plan on supporting every local business / restaurant I can as soon as they open back up. Plan on spending every penny back local.

Saving most for bills seeing as I'm out of work currently.

Was going to splurge a small bit and get 2 versa pumps to setup AWC(got plenty of time to get it all setup lol). Unfortuantly everyone is out of stock on just the single pump heads.

I qualified for the stimulus, received it, but I am fortunate enough to not need it to keep food on the table or pay bills. I decided to buy my grandmother a new coffee pot (she loves her cup of joe) and I’m donating a fair portion of the rest. I’m reaching out to food banks, homeless shelters, and efforts for the needy through my church. In my opinion, the best use of the money is to spend it, and yes, some of that will go towards the hobby. However, if someone else can use it for necessities, the money is still being injected into the economy. When I was very young, my dad lost his job for a short period of time, and I really feel for those who may have lost their job by no fault of their own. Hang in there everyone.

Investing half, spending some of the other half. Lets dial this 75 lol. Lucky enough to still work full time. Hope everyone hangin in there

I received my stimulus check and my goals are to upgrade the size of my tank. With the exception of an apex akt have everything needed for the new tank accept the money. I'm waiting to be able to get enough points to post my extra equipment here on reef2reef, but I am unsure how to do so. I have some lights and dosing pumps with less than 3 weeks on them that I need to find a good home for and really do not want to go the eBay route. Any tips on how to get my profile points up would be greatly appreciated

For all those complaining about spending the stimulus checks on reefing gear......

It's an ECONOMIC STIMULUS check, designed to be SPENT TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY! Not to be saved, but actually spent. How you decide to spend it is up to each individual.

End rant.

While I will spend 90% of on bills and food, I will splurge a little and do my part to stimulate the economy.

I'm also fortunate enough to still be working (non-patient facing for the local hospital so plenty of work that can all be done from home). I'm a finance guy so I probably thought about it more than I needed to but I'm going to try and add it to my tax return and split it up a few ways. Some will go to saving for my wedding and some to hobbies - fish, Jeep, and paying for my football tickets. Anything that makes it through will get dumped into savings/investments.

Was planning on splurging on the tanks, fixing stuff around the house and setting some aside for a vacation after all this but now Im saving it as my wife had minor "emergency" surgery last week and Im sure the bill will be more then my entire stimulus. Ive been laid off almost 3 weeks but have been lucky enough to get my unemployment checks so far.

Hey everyone!

Hope you guys are having a great day! Most of this thread has been a fun discussion, but a few posts have been removed due to things going political. This is just a quick reminder to please avoid debating politics on R2R. Those types of debates turn nasty quick, so let's keep things civil and reef-related.

I couldn't quite figure out why some were against people spending this money on aquarium things, local fish stores need all the help they can get right now as do many other small businesses.

I know in my area without LFS there is no hobby, up in Canada we don't have all the online livestock selection the US has, especially for fish, so LFS is where you go. (there is limited online selling of fish, but nothing compared to the US, shipping is expensive in Canada)

As you say it's not called a savings check, the government wants people to spend it to keep things in the economy running.

Hard work, Work hard for everything you have said my wise father told me. He didn't mention that this would = No Stimulus Check. The American Dream is Simple. The harder I work the luckier I get!
