Hey gurus, do the mini carpets (Stichodactyla tapetum) have a more potent sting to them than BTAs/Rocks? I.e., are they like the larger carpet anemones in that regard? A friend who owns an LFS got stung by a larger carpet and it really messed him up. (Multiple visits to the doctor).

mini carpets have a very strong sting and are aggressive. Everyone has different reactions to stings...I’ve never been affected by any type of anemone

I would label their sting as “Aggressive “

carpets in general have very strong stings. I'd assume the mini have a less dangerous sting than the big ones, considering the large carpet nems are strong enough to sting humans. in the end, the "stick" that nems have is hundreds of tiny needles/hooks penetrating the skin. The numbness/pain comes from the venom in the stingers. I can imagine both mini and maxi carpets are comparably more dangerous to livestock than BTAs and Rock flowers

Thanks everyone. I have never had issues handling (though usually not intentionally) BTAs and Rocks, but I was just contemplating whether it is worthwhile including mini carpets into the mix (since they would be compatible with my tank). Just not sure I want to introduce something into my hobby that could result in a rather unpleasant experience eventually. :) Same view with Zoads and Lionfish, both which I kept many times previously.

Size of tank depends too. watch out for chemical warfare between different aggressive nem species. Bubble tips and carpets among them
