Got some macro algae in the other day left in bag for a couple more days was waiting on my sump to come in. Opened the bag and it stunk up the whole house. Is it still good to use?

It’s in the water

It’s in the water now but the smell just lingering
If it smells, it’s probably decaying. A lot of times, macro will come with other inhabitants. They may have died and that’s the smell.

Not to savy in the hobby yet. But I got from algae barn. Do you recommend I take it out and trash it?

Macro can't sit in stagnant water for a few days plus however long it was in transit. It needs flow and clean water and stable temperature. As another user mentioned there were likely critters in there that have died and fouled the water due to the lack of those same things I mentioned. I personally would not use it. You could however contact Algaebarn and explain the situation and that you are new to the hobby and didn't know and they may offer you a discount or partial replacement. They have some of the best customer service in the business. Worst they can say is no.

If it’s already in the tank, I wouldn’t take it out. The bad stuff went in the water already. Perhaps it lived or didn’t. I guess you’d have to give it a chance at this point.

Since it’s in your water, keep an eye on PO4 and NO3 if that concerns you. Worst case scenario is die-off will release nutrients into water.
