Hi guys! I've been running my SPS dominated tank for a few years now without any major failures. Unfortunately that's not the case anymore... About two weeks ago my calcium pump stopped dosing and my ca level dropped to extremely low levels making the alk shoot through the roof after a few days. I've now corrected the levels over a few days but some corals are showing signs of STN and one tortuosa has lost 3/4 of its tissue. So the question... Is there any point of trying to save it by fragging it or should I just consider it dead?

I toss more food in.. Fragging things up when they're in a time of stress only ever seems to create more stress ime..
I've brought quite a few things back and all I did was feed more, more often. If you don't have anything like a planktonic food I would suggest nutricell. It's encapsulated and when I was looking into it, I had it in it's own jug of water for 48+ hours before I got a reading of ammonia, so it definitely doesn't break down as fast as my other foods. Anyways, a 1ml spoon or such is their spoon they give you, but I've found a 1/8 of a teaspoon to 1/2 teaspoon create a very nutritious soup. I assume the coral more easily feeds because it's being coated in food. But it works very well for rtn/stn. I would consider it my goto in those situations when I'm really worried.

Thanks for the response! It's now almost 24 hours since I fragged the tort and the piece on the plug is so far not showing any signs of tissue necrosis. However all the remaining tissue on the original piece is now gone...

Give it a week or 2, if its rtn and at risk of loosing the colony before then - i would frag the remaining tissue. Otherwise go about your normal routine you should be ok. Quick question buddy, what dosing pump?
Ok thanks! It's a Pacific Sun Kore 5th doser. But actually, the doser was operating normally. It was the tubing that wasn't all the way down into the container. I must have pulled it somehow without noticing.
