Aside from the usual suspects, test water with a voltmeter. I was experiencing the same earlier this year and after testing, testing and more testing I was racking my brain because I couldn’t find the problem. Then a couple weeks later I tested with a voltmeter and wow, it was flowing, with the help of my wife I kept the meter connected and when she unplugged a koralia powerhead it dropped to barely nothing. I threw it away and within a week everything was back to normal, happy and normal. I have a heavily stocked mixed reef and outta of all the corals only some of the acros were affected. Just throwing it out there as it’s something to check if all params are normal and stable.

I usually send water immediately for ICP or Triton testing .

Have you done any major changes in the tank ? Especially around dropping PO4 too quickly because it was high ?

Dismantle every single pump and frag racks and anything that uses magnets and look for rust in pump impellers and magnets.

Knowing current levels of nutrients and chemistry levels will be of little helpful as it doesn’t show what they have changed from ? It’s the changes that affect the acros more than current stable levels .

Abhishek

How stable is your temperature? I have a buddy that recently had an issue despite having a chiller and heaters, the settings were a little off and he was getting like 2.5 degrees per day and it was enough to cause some issues with SPS.

I would do this.

Third suggestion to send a water sample out for testing. After you do so, try a large water change and possibly a second until the test results come back.

So - since stability is important - wouldn't it be best to send the test (to perhaps a quicker turn-around lab) - and wait. Or - do the massive water changes and THEN send the test. If you do it the way you suggest - there is no way to interpret the results - unless I'm misunderstanding.

While the test results wouldn't necessarily reflect what's in the tank _right_now_, it seems to me that they would still indicate which elements were out of line, giving the OP a place to begin looking for the source of the issue.

Sorry for your losses. Those are pretty large sps colonies. Can you give us a sense of how old/mature your 650 system is?

Also:
1) Flow in the tank: powerheads/gyres? Which and how many?
2) Lights? LEDs? What intensity and how many hours. Any changes?
3) Your calcium reactor -- has it been keeping your ALK steady at 7? With that much SPS, your daily consumption levels would be pretty high, and ALK of 7 is dangerously close to being too low.

Assuming this is a mature system, something has changed or some parameters have been volatile. Are any LPS suffering too? Fish?

Lastly, you should try to rule out pests. If you can pull out a colony that still has tissue (but is suffering) and look at it under a strong magnifying glass under good lighting, you should. Google search images for AEFW (acro eating flat worms), red bugs, and coral pest eggs.
