I recently (4 days ago) got 2 ocellaris clownfish, and 2 snails. Can I go to my lfs and buy a cleaner shrimp to put in today? Can a cleaner shrimp survive in a 10 gallon? Is it too early or should I wait to put it in? Also when can I turn the lights on?

Hi Derek, I'm not sure what you mean with your question - when can you turn your lights on?

I wouldn’t keep a shrimp in a 10 gallon tank. IMO it’s way to small

I heard I shouldn't turn my lights on for a while because it would cause algae growth. Also do you think I can add a cleaner shrimp? thanks!

Your going to get algea either way. It’s not avoidable

I think inverts like cleaner shrimp do fine in nano tanks but keeping in mind that they don’t like big fluctuations in water parameters. With that being said, I’d make sure you have an ATO system set up to keep salinity at 35ppm and do religious weekly water changes with your own SW mix to keep the other elements stable- but you should already be doing that if you have a 10g. Also they are omnivorous so make sure they’re fed and happy.
