I've been saving up for an upgrade (I'm thinking 250-300G). I was wondering what folks experiences are with keeping any of these species on the stock list with an SPS dominanted reef? I plan to have a bare bottom tank by the way.

Stock:
1 Conspicuous Angel (must have)
1 Bandit Angel pair (must have)
1 Emperor Angel orange tail (maybe)
1 Multibar Angel pair (must have)
1 Black Tang (must have)
1 Gem Tang (maybe)
1 Hippo Tang (must have)
1 Achilles Tang (maybe)
1 Galaxy Clarkii or Madagascar Clownfish pair (maybe)

Thoughts?

Initial thought: Gonna need a big wallet.

Please share the build process on this because I would love to see all these species together. You may have some aggression issues with the tangs as well and those angels will pick at corals, how much damage they do to SPS depends on the corals and how often/in-often the fish are fed, but I'm not super sure on that since I don't have personal experience with these fish, just what I've read or heard about from other hobbyists.

Yeah, that's why I'm contemplating if I should just do a fowlr tank instead, but those don't seem interesting to me.

And yes, I plan to slowly stock up on the fish since these aren't the cheapest fish out there. I'm thinking of putting the sps reef together in place and then slowly add the fish starting with Hawaiian species first.

Good luck! Those species are becoming harder and harder to find.

so big yes to a black tang, gem tang, hippo and tang Achilles.got or had them all and they were model citizens with regards to sps corals.those tangs will fight in the beginning but ime they learn to get along in the long run.others may say differently but I have had no problem after a week or two with all of them together.try to introduce as many of them at the same time as possible. achilles tangs are a female dog to keep parasite free so keep that in mind.as for the others I got nothin sense I have no experience with them.together they would all make for a beautiful display tank.
PLEASE do a build thread on that monster tank.WE ALL LOVE BUILD THREADS AND PICS!

Oh yes, I will keep in mind to do a build thread. And yes, tangs in general are just a pain to keep ich and velvet off from. I'm hoping the bigger water volume will decrease that risk, but that's just a wish.

my black tang always seemed to have some spots on him.they show up real well on that solid black body.i'm sure the others had some but was less noticeable.i put a 50 watt sterilizer on a few month ago and have not seen a spot sense then.yes'sterilizers are not a cure all but they sure do help in my opinion.i also get a few more days between glass cleanings sense adding it.
