Stock list for 55 gallon tank

just compiled my complete stocklist of my new 55gallon. Have 55lbs of rock in. Currently waiting on it to finish cycling. Let me know if this looks to be a decent stock list and if you can foresee any issues between what I have here.

- yellow watchman goby +pistol shrimp
- 1 ocellaris clown
- 1 green chromis
- 1 valentini puffer
- 1 orchid dottyback
- 1 lawnmower Blenny

Obviously a clean up crew before anything.

Anyone see any issues with this? Also I am still up in the air about having a pair of clowns instead of one. Would that be too much?

Not too sure about your exact stock list, however, if its a 4 foot long 55g like mine, you'll have a much better success rate keeping all those fish together and giving them ample space to establish territory. My current stock list is below, just to give you an idea of what I keep... everyone is happy and thriving. They do not fight, however, I think I reached my cap. I tried adding a new fish and my pygmy dwarf angel harassed him to bad he died in 2 days. I doubt I'll be able to add any more fish unless it's a big one, which won't be happy. :/

Yellow Mimic Tang
Starry Blenny
Lyretail Anthias
Pygmy Dwarf Angel
Leopard Wrasse
Ocelaris black and white clown (paired with my davinci)
davinci ocelarris clown

2 Ocelaris Clown fish
Yellow Hog fish
Flame Angel
and a baby Yellow tang will be moved in February (so don't call the Tang Police just waiting for my tank to be built)

vahanyos how do you like the starry blenny? i was goign to get a lawnmower. but it sounds like my stock list will be ok. even with the 2 clowns.

- 1 valentini puffer <- not considered reef safe, might eat your snails, hermits, etc
- 1 orchid dottyback <- in my experience all dottybacks are bullies to everything in the tank
- 1 lawnmower Blenny <- not in a new tank. they need lawns to mow

There are always exceptions that people will talk about, keeping a fish known for a behavior that never showed that behavior, etc. But it's a gamble and gambling isn't reefing.

I LOVE my starry blenny. I call him the sheriff of the tank. Many times i've seen him come between two of my fish who were showing signs of aggression towards each other, and he intervened and everyone calmed down lol

He just hangs around all day and is a model citizen. Doesn't bother anyone. I have never kept a different blenny but if the personalities are anything like mine, then i recommend one for every tank.

of course! I honestly never planned on a hippo... a local shop had it in a tiny 20g tank where it was very stressed so once the 55 long got setup i went in and paid the crazy price they were asking for it just to get it out of that tank. Battled with sickness for month or so and it finally recovered. Now it's happy as can be I plan to upgrade to a 100 or 150 once I move in another year but if it becomes a problem I know a place who will take it for me so that's a plus.

No advice to give there! Goby+Shrimp pairs are one of my favorite things ever.

Some additional thoughts -- Don't bother with a "stocking list" because you're probably too new to know what you really want yet. If you take up all the available space with fish you'd wish you didn't have later one, you're going to regret it.

Odds are as time goes on, like most people, you're gonna want a lot of awesome wrasse.. And they need room to establish, they're all a little territorial and putting them in a heavily stocked tank doesn't always work.

In my tank (24x24x18) I have the following
- CF Lunate Wrasse
- Blue Flasher Wrasse
- Leopard Wrasse
- Sunburst Anthias
- Bangaii of evilness
- Yellow Assessor
- Firefish
- Neon goby
- Tangaroa goby

any signs of aggression at all with the wrasses? I have a melanurus about 4 inches long and a leapord about 3 inches long, no fighting so far, but i want to add another wrasse... im worried if hes the same size as my melanurus, then my melanurus might pick on him. dont know... for that size it's impressive if they all get a long. careful planning
