Stock List

Yeah I looked into hawkfish but didn’t want my cuc to get eaten, same with puffers. I didn’t know royal grammas would eat shrimp though
Hawkfish tend to leave snails alone, but hermits are at high risk. I’m sure some people disagree, but I love my royal gramma enough that I’m just fine without shrimp. They are totally worth it. Have you thought about firefish?

Yeah I looked into firefish but don’t want him to get bullied by a coral beauty or Pygmy angel. If I can’t have a royal gramma with shrimp then I’ll probably go with a firefish

So my revised list looks like this,
-pair of ocellaris clowns
-firefish (I would love a royal gramma but I’m afraid he’ll eat any shrimp)
-yellow watchman goby with pistol shrimp
-geometric hawkfish (I’ve read these are smaller and less likely to eat shrimp)
-coral beauty or flameback angel (I’ll add this last)

I’ll add the firefish first and then probably the clowns. Any help is appreciated!

Geometric Pygmy hawks are actually anthias, so I doubt that you’ll have a problem with them and shrimp. Your list looks good.

Thanks, would I be able to swap the firefish with a royal gramma or would that be too much of a risk with the angel and/or shrimp?

I’ve never had an angel or shrimp, so I don’t know for sure. I don’t think you would have problems with an angel and a gramma, but I don’t have experience with that. I don’t think that there is a 100% chance that a gramma will eat a shrimp, but I’ve never risked this as I hope to get a flame hawk who would eat my shrimp if the gramma didn’t. I would recommend researching all of these fish and their compatibility in other peoples threads, and then seeing what you really want the most.

Thanks for the help! I’ve done research on everything but things are always different than what I found online. Some things that work for some people don’t work for others. I get the most info from this site since there are so many people who have experience with almost everything I’m looking for

Probably. You have a forty gallon right? If the angel doesn’t get too aggressive then you should be alright. It’ll be more likely to work with a royal gramma. Just make sure to have a lot of rock work for them to hide in.
Add the royal toward the end if u can.
Pajama Cardinals should be ok in a set of 3 for that size tank. They are easier than chromis IMO..I would avoid the coral beauty and do the pygmy angels. Fire fish are great and come in a couple varieties.

I would avoid the blue devil and damsels in general unless u only want 1 the ones I have had get as obnoxious as an angel. I love my angels but they might be the downstairs kind instead of the upstairs kind. :)

I think I’ll go with a flameback angel, one of the Pygmy species. Do you have any experience with those?

I think that one would be a good fit. They are usually very shy so before you buy ask the LFS to feed him if he eats ..it's a good bet (buy whatever they are feeding it) don't expect the fish to eat flake food unless they are eating that in the store. Frozen is the way to go. Lrs has great food and so does rods. Clowns will usually eat anything.
