Would a Geometric Pygmy Perchlet be too big as the only fish in a 2.5 G? I’ve read that they’re less cryptic when in smaller tanks and they don’t seem to get very big.

i respectfully would not try this ... it would seriously compromise the long-term health of the fish. a 2.5 gal pico tank is really too small for any fish IMO. ;Sorry

If you really want a fish just get a bigger tank you can get a 20 gallon long a petsmart for only $35 probably less. If that’s too big get a 10 gallon they are only $16 at Walmart and $18 at petco. You can even get tanks for cheaper if not free on cregslist pets / farm and garden or even eBay. Bigger is easier a 2.5 would be extremely hard to care for I don’t ever buy a tank smaller then 10 gallon since everything under that is just too hard to maintain. But if you really want a tank get a 55 gallon petsmart has a kit that is only $150 and you get a the 55 gallon tank sealed with beautiful black silicone a hood / lights a filter and heater it’s so worth it best deal ever if you have the money get it you won’t regret it. That even rhymed. Don’t do a reef it gets to complicated just do a fish only tank with dry rock from Amazon it’s $40 for 40LBS of the stuff and it’s great just remember to Cycle your tank first. Good luck and remember just have fun.

I would get a neon goby if I were you if you decide not to upgrade but maintaining a tank that small in the long run is going to cost just as much and require a lot more of your time and energy. Have fun mixing salt every day if that’s the case But hey I’m not here to drag you down if your up for the challenge do it but it’s not really worth it if you can’t have fish. Try out a 10 gallon but believe me your better off with the 20 gallon long you will tank me in the long run.
