I currently have a six line wrasse, bristletooth surgeon, royal gramma and a spawning pair of damsels. The bristletooth is still small at about 2", have had it for almost 2 years along with the other fish. I've tried adding various others but the tank always takes the numbers back to the original 5 fish.
I would like quite a few more fish. What are y'all thinking about this situation?

I think he means nature happens.
That's what I thought but figured I would confirm it. My reef neighborhood has done this also with new fish but luckily I was able to return them to my LFS before it got bad in the hood.

It's funny how different species of fish form collective groups and don't want strangers in their neighborhood reef huh?
Yes, it never cases to amaze me which fish are totally laid back and which ones are easily agitated.
