We recently upgraded from a 75 to 180 and are looking for ideas for stocking it. The current line up is 1 cardinal, 2 green chromis, 2 clowns, 1 bicolor blenny, 1 6 line (i think) wrasse, 1 aipstasia eating filefish, and a paired pistol shrimp with watchman goby. We are getting our sailfin tang back as well from someone that was keeping him for us (along with possibly a powder blue tang).

We have a Duncan and that's the only piece of coral we will have in this tank. Eventually we want to do like small 30 gallon coral tank. We are in love with some of the angels and butterflys but those are generally "not reef safe" correct? Is a Duncan that appetizing to them? What other bright, colorful options are out there?

Hardy, colorful reef safe options are: yellow coris wrasse*, melaranus wrasse*, pyramid butterflyfish, royal gramma, lyretail anthias, foxface. You could maybe get away with a third tang, especially tomini, purple, or yellow. If you have a lid, your options expand with all the beautiful wrasse options.

*eat feather dusters but otherwise fairly reef safe

The melaranus is what we have now, I remembered lol. And yes we do have glass lids. I fell in love with a pearl scale butterfly today.

So right now we have 2 clowns, aipstaisa eating filefish, melaranus wrasse, 1 cardinal, 1 chromi (we lost the other cardinals and chromis during the switch), Desjardini sailfin tang, magnificent foxface, marine betta, pistol shrimp and blue spotted (i believe) watchman goby. We are definitely adding some more chromis and cardinals so we have some schooling fish. Picking up a powder blue tang next week as well.

Not sure how much more we can go after we add those guys.
