Hello everyone. I am am looking to add a valentini puffer to my 30 gallon aquarium. The tank is already stocked with 2 clownfish, a goby, and a royal gramma. Is this to possible or would the tank be over stocked?
4 fish in a 30 is probably at the max (says the guy with 8 in a 40 breeder), but 2 of those fish (gramma and goby) are more rock dwellers and my understanding is that puffers are more open water swimmers so it might work.
A few of issues to be aware of with the Valentini Puffer (or any puffer for that matter): 1) They aren't considered reef safe so they could nip at corals and will likely eat inverts 2) They can nip the fins of other fish. 3) They will need clam on the half shell (or something similar) to help wear down their beaks and it is likely to add a fair bit to the bioload on that tank.
