Stocking an IM 25 lagoon

Hey all I just ordered an IM 25 gallon tank. I will be transferring over 2 clowns and will probably be bringing my peppermint shrimp back to the shop. Here’s my plan I wanna see if it’s a good idea or not.
- pair of clowns
- blue yellow damsel
- helfrichi fire fish
-maybe a carpenter wrasse
Always wanted a wrasse in my 40 gallon but since I had a hob filter and protein skimmer I was never able to get the lid snug enough for me to even try with one

They haven’t been bad to my other inhabitants over the years it was the gramma who caused all the chaos wish I removed it b4 it was too late, killed 1 clown, flame angel, and a Kaudern cardinal. Removed it after I changed half the aqua scape in the 40. The female loves biting my fingers during water changes tho lol

FWIW, my Carpenter wrasse, in a 55 gallon, uses the whole tank. LiveAquaria min tank size is 55, and to be honest, I wish he was in a bigger tank.

I have this tank. It is decidedly difficult to stock. I have a single clown, pink streaked goby, and two neon goby's. Everything past this point has resulted in death.

As to the helfrichi, beautiful fish. If it's your showcase fish and you put him in there one of two things happens. He jumps out and dies (even with a lid) because it's a very shallow tank and he won't like being nipped at by the clowns or damsel.

Or

Clowns/damsel just outright murder your firefish.

I had the same experience as I describe above with a McCoskers wrasse. Luckily the wrasse didn't have to suffer long. When he jumped out my giant schnauzer was there for a serving of very fresh sashimi. He picked the fish up and ate him instantly....

I highly suggest looking towards a tank filled with gobies and a blenny if you want a firefish.


On the reverse side of this, I also have a very very peaceful 15 gallon IM cube.

It houses, purple firefish, neon goby, wheelers goby, tailspot blenny. It does this in a peaceful way. But I still keep a cover on it just in case.

Sounds good maybe I’ll go with a 6 line damsel pair of clowns and I’ll go with maybe a blenny so I’ll keep the timid fish out of the tank

Damsel fish are some of the most personable and fun fish to watch in a reef tank with the downside being they are complete jerks a lot of the time. Firefish are very meek fish and need peaceful tankmates so that might not work. Seems a bit packed and I honestly might pass on the Wrasse. Maybe just pick what you want the most out of the first three and then adjust your stocking list around that particular fish.

I love my Tailspot but he bullied the firefish I added almost immediately and I had to return it. So even that is not a sure thing. Maybe depends on the order in which you add the fish.
