I have a 50 gallon reef tank
I want to have:
5 or 6 chromis
2 Clownfish(Occeralis)
1 watchman goby
1 or 2 cleaner shrimp
1 pistol shrimp
3 blue legg hermit crabs

That stocking is fine for that size tank. I would go with the odd number of Chromis.

I have 5 Chromis and one Fire Fish in a 40 gallon and I am going to add a pair of clowns down the road.

Just FYI chromis don't like to stay in large numbers for some reason. I've heard from several experienced keepers that after a few (maybe 2-4 years) the chromis eventually start killing each other off, so you may need be prepared to replace them

With the Chromis I hear the trick is multiple small feedings a day and a larger fish to make them nervous every now and then helps them not pick on each other.

Sounds like it might work out. I assume multiple areas to hide wouldn’t be a bad idea either
