Hello all,

I have a Nuvo 20 and would like to come up with a stocking list.

Finish this list with any fish that you think would be good:

-2 Ocellaris Clowns
-1 Cleaner Shrimp
-please finish the list!

Thanks,

Wade

Most gobies, blennies, basslet, small wrasses (possum), fire fish. Obviously not all of those, just options. Don't forget inverts/cleaners.

So would 2 clowns and a gramma be the limit? When should I add each fish?

I would keep it to 3-4 fish. The clowns and the gramma can get pretty big.

If your going to start with bottled bacteria, you could add all three if you start out with a high concentration of the bacteria. If your going to cycle your tank with the shrimp style method, I would slowly add the fish.

Possum wrasse or Pink streaked wrasse would be nice. Yasha or Randall's goby paired with a Candycane pistol shrimp would go well too. I have the same tank and would share my stock list but I'm afraid of being judged :D

So would this stocking list be ok?

-2 Clowns
-1 Royal Gramma Basslet
-1 Red Firefish Goby
-1 Cleaner Shrimp

Firefish or Yasha Goby and Pistol Shrimp..?

The unique relationship between the pistol and yasha is awesome. Its always cool to watch the pistol shrimp bulldoze the sand substrate but it requires you to make sure your rock structures are sitting on a solid surface like the glass bottom or eggcrate. If your rock work is sitting on the sand, the shrimp can cause your rock work to collapse because they like tunnel like no tomorrow. My experience with the shrimp is that if you have few corals on the sandbed, its okay. If you have a lot of stuff on the sandbed, they get buried =d.

Other wise your selections are fine.

So woud THIS be ok? How big is the bioload of the goby?

I have the same tank and my stock list is:

2 occ. clowns
1 skunk cleaner shrimp
1 midas blenny (this is my next fish I plan to add in a few weeks)
POSSIBLY a mandarin months down the line if I can get my pod population up to a good number.
Various corals and snails

So is my stocking list ok?
(here it is again)

5 fish is a lot for that tank. I would stick to 3 and maybe later on add a 4th if you feel your tank can handle the bioload

Fair warning, with the 2 clowns and the Royal Gramma you won't see much of the Firefish. I only see mine during feeding time. And fwiw, I have a larger bio load than what you have listed in my fusion 20 and I have to feed really heavy just to try to keep my nitrates above zero, so it can be done if you're only worried about bio load. Nitrates are currently at 0.3 but I'd prefer to have them higher.

So.. taking away the firefish...

-2 Clowns
-1 Royal Gramma Basslet
-1 Cleaner Shrimp
-1 Yasha Goby*
-1 Pistol Shrimp*
*possibly adding later

how hardy are grammas?

I don't see any issues with it. It's ultimately up to you though as stock list are really a personal choice. I would think those fish would all be ok together but nothing is really guaranteed. The same species of fish can be a model citizen in one tank and a terror in another. In my tank one of my juvenile percula clowns is peaceful, doesn't bother anyone or disturb anything while the other is kind of a jerk who chases everyone, tries to kill the other clown sometimes and constantly kicks up sand on my coral.

Out of curiosity how many fish do you have in your 20 gallon nuvo? What were they? I’m thinking of 5 fish…lol
