Hello all,

i am working on a stocking list for my new Cade, I was hoping to get some input and suggestions on some fish. Initially i wanted to do an all our aquaculture tank. My favorite fish that got me into the hobby are just not on the list. So i will be mixing and matching.

The total display size is 115g. I was assuming this would be good for 3 tangs, and a variety of fish behind them. I compiled a list below of what i want and what i must have. Please let me know what you think.

The ones highlighted in green are already in the tank. The only one i would get rid of is my 6 line but he has been a good boy for the last three years.

I am open to suggestions as well!

So with you tangs the purple and yellow tangs are both zebrasoma tangs which means from the same species and shape, not only this but these tangs especially the purple are some of the most aggressive out there. I personally would just go with the yellow out of these two just to not only avoid aggression between the purple and yellow but the purple and other tangs. The blue hippo tang I would not put in this size tank, they grow quite big and fast and a 4 ft tank is not anywhere close to what is needed for them especially since they are an active fish. The bristletooth tang is a very good choice for the tank as with size, ability to graze on rock, and not so aggressive is perfect.

The magnificent foxface is also a 50/50 in the way they grow quite big like the blue hippo tang but they arent as active. I think if you dont have too much fish in the tank you could take the magnificent foxface.

I dont know much about wrasse so someone else needs to fill in on that.

I would make sure to add the mandarin fish after a few months to make sure a steady supply of pods is given even tough they can eat regular food since they are aquaculture.

I would make to also have a lid on this tank as some of the fish like the firefish and some wrasse are jumpers.

Thank you for the fast reply! The lid is on and secure, it comes with all Cade tanks! I should have mentioned it was either purple or yellow tang. But i think i will go with the yellow for less aggression. The yellow and bristletooth should be fine together. I will exclude the hippo tang as they aren't a must have for me. The magnificent Fox Face is a must have and is by far my favorite fish. So i will plan around keeping less fish in the tank for him.

Added a variety of pods to my tank the first week i set it up. i had a lot of rock transferred from my old tank so there was food for them already. I will let their population grow over the next 4 months before adding the dragonet.

Thats good to hear, I didnt even know the cades came with lids.

Yeah honestly I think the yellow tang, bristletooth, and magnificent foxface would be a good combo to keep. Thats something similar to what I am planning to keep in my next build. If you can I would add the yellow tang and bristletooth at the same time to further down play any chance of aggression. I would say 3-4 'big' fish is a good amount for this tank

Seems like you know what you are doing with the mandarin as you already added the pods so thats good.

I would just get some advice on wrasses.

When I got my first tank years ago the local fish store told me a dragonet would be a good first fish. It died very quickly. So I always wanted another one and I want to do it right this time!

but yes wrasse will be a learning curve for me. I’m watching a lot of videos on them but I always like to hear personal feedback. They’re colors are enticing.

milk keep my three big fish as the 2 tangs and rabbit fish.

I will have to wait for the tangs to be in stock at the same time

The Foxface is perfect for that tank - They stay in that medium category size and aren’t active. The magnificent is the second smallest to my knowledge.
I don’t recommend the hippo as they can get active as well as large. These can also get quite aggressive (Yellows and Purples are among the most aggressive in the Zebrasoma genus but don’t compare to some of those outside of it).
The six line will be aggressive towards other wrasses to start, then potentially go for the smaller rock dwelling fish (Helfrichi Firefish).

Well I was hoping to have a purple/yellow and a bristletooth. i feel like two tangs and a rabbitfish would be the perfect big three for the tank.

the 6 line may not stay, he may be replaced with a coris wrasse but time will tell.

How has your stocking been going?

I just came across your thread, and I have a Case 1200 I've been running since 3/2023. I am deciding about some final fish to add.

Right now I have:
  • bicolor foxface
  • two firefish
  • spotted mandarin
  • three wrasses (melanurus, blue face, and royal flasher)
  • two ocellaris clownfish
  • engineer goby
  • pygmy geometric hawkfish
My LFS had a pintail fairy wrasse today and now I want one of those
And I think I'd like a gem tang eventually.

I'd love to see where your tank is and how you set it up!

Hey! I’ve been keeping it very simple, I think once you get a new tank you get the urge to do everything at once.

I currently have
-1 magnificent foxface
-1 six line wrasse
-1 bristle tooth tang
-2 basic clowns

I had a bad run with a yellow tang and a filefish which turned me off of added more fish. Both were healthy and just decided to stop eating at different times.

I really like the dynamic of my tank currently, all the fish co exist. I don’t want anymore wrasse and the 6 line is aggressive when hunting for pests. I think I’m done with big fish as well, for now the rabbit fish and the tang are great buddies. My coral is growing well. My only hurdle right now is aptasia, can’t seem to eradicate them.

In the future I think I will add some anthias as well as a Midas blenny. I had a Midas in my previous tank for 5 years, they’re amazing. I want to try and allow each fish to bring their own color to the tank so they stand out.

If you have any questions or anything I’m glad to help, it’s not always easy to get info on these tanks and how they’re setup

Aiptasia is the worst! I have a 30-gallon hand-me-down cube that I haven't been able to clear. It's looking like I'll have to do a second round of nudibranches.

I read back through my post and realized I put the wrong date. I started cycling my tank in 2022, not 2023. But I do appreciate your words of caution! It's so hard not to immediately get every beautiful fish that comes through the LFS
