Currently in my 40g I have 3 X B/G Chromis and a Red Firefish. The chromis were introduced first and then I waited a month before adding the firefish.

I wanted to add either a pair of clowns or another fish this weekend, a week after introducing the firefish, and then focus on stocking corals.

Should this be okay? All parameters are in check and everyone is doing good.

The tank has only been running for 7 weeks so I don't want to be too hasty.

Thank you

Great. Thanks for the reply.

I would like to add a Coral Beauty, would it be ok or should I let my tank mature for a while longer??

Angels can be a little sensitive in a newer setup. Letting the tank mature before adding an angel would be a good idea.

skip the Coral Beauty. Although beautiful I have seen few people who have been successful with them, me included. Oh sure you are going to have those on here that chime in and say they have had great success but a poll will show true death #'s :).
There are a bunch of beautiful and amazing fish. Don't be in any rush to get fish. You are limited do to size of tank. Be very selective!
Get the clowns :) and let them settle in.

So with the clowns that makes 6 fish in 40. To me that is a decent amount.

I would be curious to see what you are basing your coral beauty claims. I have found them to be quite hardy in various settings.

As far as stocking, I would hate to see what you think of the 30 fish in my 80g.

Stocking will be determined by the fish you keep. If you have fish that are in different areas of the tank and have different jobs, you can stock heavier. It also depends on the maintenance and diet you give them.

No, you will never get a tang to thrive in a 40B. However, you could keep quite a few of the smaller fish at different levels. Some sand dwelling gobies and shrimp, the blennies, dottybacks, clowns and pair with a coral or nem over time (make sure system is matured a bit), basslets, flame wrasse and others, assessors, other gobies, and so many more little guys to make a fun interesting tank.

Just do not rush to add and make sure they all have the appropriate dwellings.

I've had a few coral beauty's through the years and if you choose a healthy fish that's eating good you should be fine. They are shy fish yet curious give it some hiding places. I might be lucky but in 15 years in the hobby all of mine have lived at least 6 years including a spike in nitrates that hit 160 ppm.
