Ive got a 20 gallon long aquarium i will be using to grow algae and microfauna, is there any kind of fish or invert that you guys would reccomend as the main display animal that wont impact the amount of microfauna or macroalgae greatly but will be visible most of the time? Open to any suggestions, ive been looking at peppermint shrimp, camel shrimp, citron goby, coral banded shrimp, etc just not sure about them eating alit of the other critters inside.

Not a whole lot of animals that won't affect your microfauna population just depends to what degree you deem acceptable. Most fish will, no matter what size will cause a sizeable amount of impact on the microfauna in the aquarium. Any of the shrimps you listed would be great or a couple of pom pom crabs, if you get enough you will probably be able to see at least one. Watching them dance with each other is worth not seeing them all of the time. Is this a refugium connected to your main system or a separate tank altogether?

Seperate tank altogether, main critters im worried about are m6 bristleworms sphagetti worms, tiny feather dusters, brittle stars, green flatworms and hydroid jellyfish, copepods not as much.

I also like the aptasia eating filefish but not sure 20 gallons is too small for one
