Stocking Ideas

Looking for some ideas on stocking a 10 gallon nano reef. Not looking to overcrowd it with a bunch of fish, I only want ONE fish.

I will probably get mixed responses, but what about a Six-Line Wrasse if I keep it as the only fish? Would it fall under the "cruel" category like when people put a Powder Blue Tang in a 40G tank? Or would he be fine? I know some have done it before, while others swear against it. Looking for some more input.

Open to other ideas, anything but a clownfish. Another option maybe is a Yasha Hasha Goby?

I'm also hoping to get one shrimp in there as well. Either a fire shrimp or cleaner shrimp.

what about a pair of Green Banded Gobies? They are small but packed full of personality. Mine are hilarious to watch play and chase each other.

Not advise on a specific fish but maybe a point to consider: look for a loner fish. You don’t wanna take a fish out of a thriving busy reef and make it live by itself. Or a pair of something Peaceful maybe? I dunno.

I have both a yasha and a sixline in a 36. Personally I feel like ten would be too small for either, definitely for a sixline. My yasha tends to explore a lot more than other borrowing gobies, and they get to a decent size. Some you could look into would be a black ray goby (very similar to yasha, smaller and more timid), Dracula goby (also similar), clown gobies, or some sort of small blenny. Or a classic yellow watchman!

Good idea on the Dracula Goby . Another idea is maybe either a purple or helfrichi firefish. Those are always out swimming in the water column darting around. Also debating a Bluestripe Pipefish now, even though I know those have some special requirements. I used to have one many, many years ago and he did well.

I was going to say fire fish, as long as you have a secure top. A jawfish might be another option.

A six line will outgrow a 10 gallon.
One of the possum wrasses would work. A pink streaked wrasse would also fit.

A fire or skunk cleaner shrimp will be fine. You could even have both, or multiple of either.

Update!

I ended up getting a Helfrichi Firefish and a cleaner shrimp.
