I am currently setting up a new build and I am starting to think ahead to the fish that I would like to stock the tank with. The tank will follow the BRS/WWC System and will be a bare-bottom SPS dominant tank. I have my list at this point below:

Yellow Tang
Whitetail Bristletooth Tang
5 - Black Axil Chromi
Dwarf Lionfish
6 Line Wrasse
2 - Clowns
2 - Bangai Cardinal

I am not completely sold on the bangia cardinals. I am also looking for another smaller shoaling fish to interact with the chromis. All suggestions are welcome.

If you get clowns I would make sure they’re on the bigger side. Dwarfs can eat larger fish than you think

I agree skip the lionfish. IMHO they belong in predator tanks. The chromis will likely pick eachother off and many are shipping with uronema disease these days. Avoid the 6 line as well. They are well known for turning into pescacidal maniacs as they mature and are not easy to remove. Go with a Halichoeres Wrasse (ie Melanurus, Christmas, Yellow or Red Lined). Similar pest removal services and they get a bit larger and will stand out more in a tank of that size.

If you want a shoaling aka schooling fish look into Zebra Dartfish as they will do better as a group in captivity.

I have a dwarf lionfish in my 120. He was fine until one day I flicked the lights on and he and the smaller clownfish near him startled and he tried to eat the clownfish. I had to shoot him with a water filled syringe to get him to spit him out. Otherwise he only eats small shrimp and crabs. Clownfish is okay, was a little startled.

He does not mess with my cardinalfish or my small yellow watchman goby either.

Thank you for all of your feedback.

Moving forward, I think I will drop the Dwarf Lionfish from the list. Also replace the 6 line with a Christmas wrasse and chromis with anthias.

Here is my revised list:

Yellow Tang
Whitetail Bristletooth Tang
5 - Barlett's Anthias (1 male, 4 female)
Christmas Wrasse
2 - Clowns
2 - Bangai Cardinal

I am also thinking about adding another fish in replacement of the lionfish, any suggestions?
