Stocking my 25 Gallon

No idea. I've only ever had one at a time, but 25 gallons isn't a lot of real estate.
Oh kk, goign back to the dragonet, say I set up a 10 gallon fuge as well as set up a few bottles, it is doable, cause it’s my dream fish and like, this is the biggest tank I could get where my mom wouldn’t kill me

Maybe - but you'd need to be producing a lot of pods. I picked up a mandarin dragonet today - but he went into a 160-gallon system with about 125lbs of live rock - so he won't be starving. I've also owned a pair of wild caught mandarins that were trained to eat frozen. Even still I realize it's at best a 50-50 proposition.

Ah ok. What if I bought captive bred trained to eat frozen. Along with that, keep a pods poputlation would that work?
Also, thoguhts on inverts specifically Harlequin?

Captive bred don't always take to frozen - so it's hit and miss there. Not on the shrimp, no. They're too small for my tank and would probably get eaten.

understood, will keep that in mind. And you said that the Harlequins would get eaten, but I don’t plan on putting any predators like wrasses

Hi, I’m 15 and I recently upgraded from an 8 gal to a 25 gal long ( dimensions are 70*35*40) with an ocellaris clownfish, a cleaner shrimp, a nassarius snail, a hermit crab, and 2 turbo snails. I also have a Zoan and a Mushroom. I’ve had my clown for almost 2 years and her name is Omen(Nemo spelt backwards, very creative). I do consider myself a noob so I want some advice on stocking both coral and fish. Coral I’m a bit clueless but I’m getting Aquaforest reef salt (used to use Seachem Marine salt) Kinda excited cause I always wanted more fish but was afraid to overstock. This is my wishlist: -
— A designer clown
- A mandarin dragonet (will add after 6 months if I do get it) I’m also up for the challenge of copepods, will setup a fugen
- Watchman Shrimp pair
- Firefish
- Harlequin Shrimp (again a challenge which I’m up for)
- Sexy Shrimp
any other fish you think I should put
Btw won’t add all of them, just want to know what I can put

I have a Seachem Tidal 75 modified with added carbon and filter floss from previous aquarium
Also have a nano skimmer
Spectra V2 AO29 Light

PS, I live in Dubai in case that info is useful
PSS, Sorry for such a long thread, it’s my first post
Mandarins tend to do better in larger tanks, I would maybe hold off on them.

For the watchman, I would go with a species that bonds with Candy Cane/Randalls pistols. Make sure all rocks are beneath the sand and that the sand is at least 2in (51mm*) for them too.

Harlequin shrimp are fairly hardy, but you will need to regularly buy starfish, they cannot eat anything but live starfish. Many feed them weekly/every other week with fully grown choco chip stars.

even captive bred mandarins won't always eat frozen as they age, and when you get them they are super tiny. Mandarins do best and live longest in larger, mature tanks with a fuge so they can feed on pods and other micro fauna.

If you are dead set on getting them, at least wait until your tank is older. the tank will need frequent pod doing from your cultures to sustain the mandarin and the tank will likely need a lid since mandarins (and firefish) can be jumpers

Yellows may be a bit too big for the tank, maybe go with the red banded/high fin watchman and a candy cane/Randall's pistol shrimp.
Those gobies are really rare to come by, and for the 2 years I've been in saltwater, i haven't been able to find a high fin or a red banded. And for the pistols, normally they sell tiger pistol shrimp and they sell out on the same day so for me, it feels like the stars have aligned. I know it sounds stupid but it's the truth, besides it's not every time where you don't have exams and what you want comes.

Rocks are beneath the sand and I have a 45mm sand bed that is higher and lower in some places.

if you really really want it, you could do it. There may be issues in the future though, so keep that in mind.

I am just about a year in with a 24g tank and also am dying to have a pair of mandarins...but I concur with the advice to hold off until you have more tank-space (as it would really stink for your dream fish to not survive).

Since the mandarins are your dream fish, I am certain at some point you will have them . Before that time comes, do some digging into the Paul B Mandarin Feeder, and also a Baby-Brine-Shrimp hatchery (links to these below):

My tank has stayed stable with a pair of clowns, a purple firefish, and a YWG / Pistol-Shrimp pair (which is fun to have and stays out of trouble with the other fish). Not sure if it's been mentioned yet in the thread, but maybe considering a Goby (either Tailspot or Lawnmower) to help control algae growth in the tank.

Happy reefing and congrats on the upgraded tank size!

Hello!
I like your final list mentioned with the pair of clowns, some goby shrimp pair (again, I would go with a smaller than ywg if you can). A pink bar, orange spot, and many other small ones with a candy pistol are great. I worry a tiger pistol will get quite large for the tank.
Other fish to add would be something like trimma/eviota gobies, if you get them in that area. Small and fun to watch scoot and swim around. Clowns should ignore them too.
The blenny ideas of tailspot is good. Or a Rainford's goby.

On the harlequin, they can get rather large actually. I have one that is easily over 3" tall. If you are up for the challenge of their diet, go for it.

I would hold off on the mandarin for a larger system. A ruby red dragonet maybe if you have the pods and willing to do the diet.

Good luck! We cannot wait to see the new system.
