So I have my tank cycling as we speak and I’m starting to think about sticking it. I know for a fact I want a pair of either ocellaris or maroon clownfish. I’m also positive I want an anemone for the pair (though I won’t be adding it until the tank is well established.) as far as inverts, id really like a starfish if that would work with the others I’m adding. I also like the idea of an urchin. Or maybe even a watchman goby. Can you guys put together a stock from these ideas that will live in harmony together without overstocking? Thanks :)

Congrats on the new tank!

So a couple things:
The maroon clownfish are one of the most aggressive species. Definitely go with the ocellaris! As fore the anemone, it's best to wait until at least 6 month to a year to add them. There are countless stories on there about people adding them to their young tank, only to have it die within weeks. The same sort of goes for starfish. They are quick to run out of food in the aquarium, especially a young one.

I have heard that urchins can be a good first addition though. Watchman gobies are very cool, especially if you pair it with a pistol shrimp; watching those two do their thing is just awesome to me. You could also look at a skunk cleaner shrimp, an emerald crab, purple dottyback, midas blenny, reef chromis, etc.

More importantly than their aggression is their size. A 29 is probably too small for a pair of Maroon's. At least with the other species of clowns you can add another small fish or two.

If I wait to add the anemone what are the chances the pair of clowns will host it? And also is it better to purchase a bonded pair of fish or two randoms ?

If a bonded pair is available, that would be ideal. Two clown strangers can really go at it to establish dominance.
If getting two random clowns, it can help to get a bigger and smaller one so the issue is settled and they don't fight about it.

Do some research on the nem hosting issue. Often, people buy nems that aren't native to the region of their clowns.

Watchman goby and tiger pistols are awesome!

You can have my maroon clown I have named him jaws since he jumps out of the water to attack me before my hand gets in the water.
