Ive got an empty 50g 4ft tank and thinking of doing my first saltwater tank! Would be a FOWLR tank. Its obviously months away as im not setup etc having freshwater tanks im aware of cycling etc but still have plenty of research to do until im ready. However im wondering about stocking rates and compatibility just to get an idea. Ive eyed off fish at the LFS so know a few I like but would love some advice on what would be suitable so I know what I can look forward to down the track.
These are ones I like the look of but any suggestions are appreciated! Peaceful would be great and this will be my only saltwater tank and I dont want any that will grow to large and need rehoming (I get attached lol)

Ocellaris Clownfish (main choice so everything else will need to be compatible with this one.

Royal dottyback?

Yellow tang?

Firefish?

Watchman goby?

Any safe shrimp?

Any suggestions. Need to be peaceful and colourful especially. Im not set on anything but 1 or 2 clownfish so advice on stocking levels (roughly) and other fish are appreciated too :)

Also nothing that requires eating feeder fish! Cant do it

50g is to small for a yellow tang. How about a flasher wrasse? they are active and colorful.

Gorgeous fish thank you!

Will cross the tang off ☺

Will cross off the dottyback too. They sound a bit aggressive for the clownfish

Actually the firefish would be the one I would be worried about the most. Firefish are the perfect target for aggressors as they are small and easily intimidated and brightly colored to boot. My Purple Firefish was the number 1 target for any fish that was even remotely assertive that went into my tank, too bad though, it was a pretty fish:

Oh and I agree with the post above about the Yellow Tang. I would say 75 gallon minimum to keep them happy long term. I currently have one in a makeshift acclimation box getting ready to go in my 90.

Jesterrace thanks!
Gorgeous tank! Such a great coloured fish would be nice to have!

Been looking and thinking something like.

Clownfish
Royal Gramma
Purple Firefish
Watchman Goby
Banded Coral Shrimp (not sure if thats a safe option yet?)

Would be nice to have the contrast of something blue or green too?
