  • 54g display + 11g sump
  • No lid for now
  • Only current inhabitants are two baby clowns and a pulsing xenia. Plan to get a couple zoas this weekend. Will work to LPS eventually
  • Planning basic CuC of a variety of snails and crabs once I start seeing algae growth (tank has only been running 3 weeks now)

Trying to plan out long-term stocking and make sure everything is compatible. I am mostly interested in colorful fish. Here's what I plan to add, over time:

* Royal Gramma
* Chromis (not sure what color yet)
* Flame angel (possibly coral beauty angel instead, but leaning towards flame)
* Lemon damsel
* Mandarin (very long term)

Questions
Are there concerns with lemon damsel + clowns? The clowns are very young/small, so maybe if I add a juvenile damsel they will work it out now? I am open to other damsels if they are less likely to have problems, especially blue sapphire, but not sure if that would cause problems with royal gramma due to similar coloration. When is best to add the damsel in relation to these other fish?

Really I would like a yellow fish in here somewhere-open to other suggestions on a good yellow option for my setup. The yellow goby sounded like a good option until I found out they are prone to jumping out :-/

Any other colorful/especially yellow but open to other colors fish I could swap out for the lemon damsel? Or should I not be too worried about the lemon damsel?

There is a chance that as the clowns damsel grow up that they may butt heads a bit, but since they are all starting small they may be just fine. I would just watch them closely. If you plan on having other corals later on especially LPS I would be careful adding any angels as they can develop an appetite for corals as they get bigger. As far as a yellow fish a yellow coris wrasse would be a great option! Very active fish and they eat different pests that may be on your rock and coral.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Wow the yellow wrasse is really pretty! I like the look of a lot of wrasses but unfortunately I am trying to stay away from adding a lid to my tank if possible, are the yellow ones jumpers as well? Also will the yellow wrasse eat up lots of copepods from my eventual-mandarin?

For the damsel, would you recommend adding it next or once I have a couple other fish in the tank?

They likely will jump and probably out compete your mandarin.

i would probably add the damsel last into the tank.

For a different yellow option you could do a Lemonpeel Dward Angel instead of the flame or a Yellow Watchman Goby :)

Thanks! Adding last into the tank obviously means there is less of a chance of adding it as a juvenile while the clowns are still juveniles, so I wasn't sure what was more likely to have success there.

The lemonpeel angels are pretty but from what I've seen they are significantly more likely to eat corals than the flame or coral beauty :confused:

I will look into the goby!
