My tank is cycling, got Nitrates but Nitrites not falling yet, and I am having fun picking out the fish I want. I have a sand bottom and rock and I plan on adding corals and fish. These are the fish I want do you see any problems or have any other suggestions.

  • Yellow Tang, I know the 350 is low on volume but it is 4' long and there is a lot of open area.
  • Flame Angel, I know some nip at coral but I love the way it looks. I will keep an eye on it and if it eats corals send it to the LFS or a good home.
  • Orchid Dottyback I think this one should be easy
  • A school of 4 Chromis, I like the way the Blue Reef better than the more common blue/green but they cost 4 times as much so is there anything, other than looks and cost, to make one more desirable than the other
  • Two Spot Goby, I want a sand sifter. I know there will probably not be enough for him to eat. I have seen where I can add food to the sand and have him not realize I fed him.
I don't want a top on the tank so wrasses are out. Or maybe I will put one on and then wrasses are in.

I love yellow and have thought of having all the fish have some yellow but my reading seems to indicate the flame angel is a better choice than the bicolor so I gave that up.

Artfully Acrylic makes a screen top for the Red Sea tanks. I strongly urge a screen top of some sort as any fish can jump.

Green chromis are not only cheaper, but also hardier than the Caribbean blue reef chromis.

Two spot or twin spot gobies or a challenging species, your plan sounds good, but my not work.

Other possibilities with a screen top include grammistes blenny, midas blenny, melanurus or yellow coris wrasse, flasher or fairy wrasses, purple tilefish, flame or longnose hawk, a group of zebra or scissortail dartfish, sunburst anthias, a small group of randalls or dispar anthias, watchman goby and pistol shrimp.
