heya!

I currently have a 20g waterbox20, and I have it stocked with a fair few corals, a nem, 2x astrea, 2x trochus, 3x turbo, 1x nassarius, 1x strombus, 2x clowns, 1x lawnmower blenny, 1x banded shrimp.

I'd like to add another fish, perhaps a yellow assessor, or something particularly striking. Or, would adding something else be too much? I think another goby type or blenny may fight with my lawnmower blenny, who I adore and would hate to lose.

any suggestions?

Take a look at Bangai cardinals.
I had a pair in my 20 for 8 months and they are now in my 80. Very peacfull fish. They just float around and dart here and there.
Cool fish, imo.

they're definitely cool fish, but just lack the wow factor I want (no offense). trying to find something that'll be super interesting to observe

Not alot of wow fish for a 20, imo.
It really boils down to what you want. I also had a sixline in with the pair.
I would go for the coral wow factor if it was my system.
Currently rebooting my 20g and plan a fishless system.
Good luck in your fish quest.

My old 20 before I took it down.
Running a 250 halide on the reboot for fun.
I really like the 16hds on the 20. I run 7 across 3 systems. Radions on the 80.
My old 20 under 2 16hds.
Looking forward to seeing this build grow!

Here is the same tank today running a 250 watt halide.
Corals are still adjusting to the higher light levels
Today is day 9 of the reboot.

A royal gramma or yellow tailed damsel would offer you a real pop of color from afar. I have both in my tank and peaceful. The yellow tailed damsel was added last and all have been together well over a year.

How about a cool shrimp goby pair?
that would be incredible, although i worry abt banded shrimp compatibility. he's a bit of a menace, likes to chase the fish and be a general lunatic. i love him tho, he's so active and i've caught him eating bristle worms hahah

exact reason i thought of an assessor. will have to consider those as well, thanks mate

The cardinal actually has a lot of wow factor in person. I thought they were lame until I saw them myself, they are so uniform and move so gracefully plus they contrast well with colorful fish and corals.

Your tank is probably fully stocked by most standards though.

You shouldn’t have to worry about that as pistol shrimp are aggressive and will hurt anything that gets in the way of its burrow. A shrimp fish will just swim back into its hole and it would be very strange for your banded shrimp to get a hold of it.

I personally might suggest a Liopropoma basslet of some sort! Do better in nano tanks, because they feel more comfortable in a smaller space and you’ll see them all the time. Super colorful and have great personalities! Yellow assessors are beautiful too but everywhere I could find suggested a larger aquarium for them so I refrained from putting one in my nano.

If you can find a white banded or Tanaka Pygmy wrasse, those are stunning too and have unique behavior to watch.

I’ll try see some in person, might be nice for some just graceful movement! Thanks mate
