In QT. Flame hawk and fairy wrasse.

Next will be a firefish and clown goby. Can I add just one Resplendent Anthias? Or do I need three? I'm afraid of overstocking. I would also like a yellow eyed Kole tang and a clown. Why does everyone add a pair of clown? Again I'm short on tank space here.

Oh forgot it's a 58 gallon reef tank with sump.

Most people add pairs. Because they like clowns and like to watch them interact with each other. I wouldn't do a tang in anything smaller then 90gal. And I hope you know anthias need allot of food.

Wouldn't a pair of clowns be more aggressive because of being territorial? Or would that be the same with one?

I need one bigger fish. If not a small tang then?

clown goby

These guys can be trouble for corals.

You can add three if you want to just end up with one when it's all said and done.

Otherwise just start with one.

But I'd consider zero in such a small tank.

Those two thoughts came out together for a reason. ;) You're at least 50 gallons short of space to keep a tang IMO. I like 72" of swimming room as a thoughtful minimum to offer them.

Your tank will have plenty of fish without a tang anyway. :) :)

Is there such a thing as a tank that is big enough? Lol Ok I'll scratch the tang even though I had one years ago. A small purple tang when they cost $39!!

So flame hawk. Wrasse. Firefish. Maybe one Resplendent Anthias. Clown one or two? Or maybe a royal gramma? Or another wrasse? So many fish out there and I'm so limited.

Instead of the anthis, you might think of a fairy wrasse or a flasher wrasse. There are some very colorful, active, hardy, and peaceful species. They even eat pellets.

So two fairy wrasse together? Does that work? I have one already. What about an assessor ?

Resplendent anthias are an anthias that does better as a group than kept singly. If you only want a single specimen of an anthias than resplendents are not the right choice. Rather try a sunburst or a lyretail, though lyretails are a bit feistier than resplendents.

Multiple species of fairy and flasher wrasses can be kept together. But if you have an established wrasse introduce a new one via an acclimation box.

There are some relatively safe dwarf angels , Flame Angelfish is some what safe and can be kept in tank not less than 55 gallons

Regarding Anthias, I Think it will not work in such a small tank, you need them to be on a group of 3 at least and they need a lot of swimming space, IMO not less than 75 gallons for a small group of Anthias

I do disagree on tank size for anthias. Rather than swimming the length of a tank anthias prefer to find a place with high flow in the top 1/3rd of the tank and swim in place in the current.

Flame fin tang(aka Bristletooth Tomini) is your only option. Max size 6" and is actually one of the most peaceful tangs. I think the 2nd pic is when they mature. If you take care of your water and don't over stock or try to max it out. This may be your answer. I have been thinking about getting one for my 40B.

I have 58 gallon tank! My stock is: Longnose Hawkfish,Fairy Wrasse,2 Clowns.
In quarantine tank i have Yellow Candy Hogfish, Starry Blenny and Cave Basslet.
Might get one small fish or 2....Really like Yellow line Cardinals.

I have a Blue Hippo Tang in my Red Sea 250... I am hoping she stays small. She is about 3-1/2" and I have had her for about (9) months. I haven't noticed and significant growth. She is happy (-:
