Sounds like similar behavior to my royal gramma currently, hides in the rocks until time to eat. And my only two other fish (clowns) just rub the thermometer all day..... it’s just a 4x2 picture of rocks unless my cleaner shrimp is hanging out in front. My observations of mine (for the three-four weeks before Marine Velvet took him down), was that he stayed low in the tank like a shark, often (but not exclusively) in a cave until feeding time, and never bothered anyone else in the tank except to be a top-dog at feeding time. To me I feel as if he would have been swimming more actively if not hiding illness most of that time; though he may have retained a bit of that dwell-near-the-bottom personality. I really liked that fish.
