Nice Pickups. While there are a few names getting thrown around with the deepwaters, there really isn't anything "official". There are quite a few that look like established morphs, such as eagle eyes, but it seems that folks want to use new names with the deepwater moniker, probably to revive a higher value on those polyps.

Thanks...i wonder if I could name them?...get on coralpedia...that would be cool.:bigsmile::bigsmile:

You could name them. But most people just call them deepwaters.

Yeah, some folks just get a kick to be able to name a zoanthid/paly and have it in coral pedia.. I guess just to say, hey I named a zoa/paly and everyone is going to go by that name now.... :snicker:

But to each to his own... btw, those are nice pieces, I had them before when they first started to funnel into the country... but alas, some weren't as forgiving to go from the wild into our tanks.

+1...would not name it to drive up price...but just to say I gave it a name...:bigsmile:.

I read on here,I think that their is no such thing as "Japenese deepwater zoanthids".

I've seen those 3 named a couple of different names on other online vendors, but can't remember the name. Certain polyps are named over a hundred different names,depends on the location your at, region etc.

They've all been named by one source or another. Keep in mind that these things have now flooded the market and been brought in at countless sources, so everyone is giving them different names. Adding another to the mix will neither detract from nor validate any particular morph.

Speaking of names, while none of these zoas coming into the market actually came from Japan's waters, the Japanese Deepwaters is just another label attached which doesn't necessairly make much difference. No, they didn't come from Japan's reefs, but they may have originally been shipped from Japan's markets to ours, and so they got the name. So yes and no.

Thanks nanofins...I believe that it was your post I read that was talking about how they were not actually from Japan waters....I'll just call them what I think they are..."Nice additions to my seahorse tank"...LOL

I personally like to call the Jap Deep waters. then describe them by colors, red skirt, purple center etc...etc..
