I was able to keep acans and chalices for almost 3 years until recently they started receding tissue. I wonder if anyone knows what causes it if all water parameters look good. Dipping doesn't seem to help once they started doing that. Something to do with carbon media or nitrate spike? Any ideas? Thanks!

That sucks to hear! My experience, they're like a little dirtier water and take well with target feedings. Is your water too clean perhaps? Any fish or invert might be picking on them? Change anything with the media you've been using? Especially with long term established tanks, I'll also take a look at the magnets and other electrical appliance for possible rusting/leeching.

if it gets worse and worse, consider fragging and saving whatever you can.

good luck!

Geez if only there was a one stop answer for this :/ hard to tell you what you need to do to fix it.

As above usually chalices like dirtier water, but mine never do well like that. I've always had the best color at .25 nitrates and .02 phosphates.

Everyone's tank is different, think about what you've done to your tank different in the last month. IME whatever changes I make usually takes that long and I know what to go back to.

Goodluck keep us posted!

It has happened to me, it is frustrating and heart breaking. There have been a few times it seems some coral group, usually something in lps family, will hit a wall. After years of looking good something changes.

If you feed your corals not sure if too clean of water is the reason. I have know of a few local people who have impeccable water and have had chalices for years in same tank as great looking sps colonies. It can be exhausting tracing down what it could be since everything has been pretty stable for years. I have traced down things like salinity was a bit too high and alk level was too low. Or at least that is what i told myself giving me reason to replace the ones lost.

Is there something you are dosing with that may be accumulating in the water. For me it seems the corals on the sand bed always got effected more than ones on a higher frag rack. As if the sand holds somethings.
