This may be a dumb question, but is there there any way to get a clown to stop hosting a coral?
Recently one of my clowns has started to host one of my torches and as expected, the torch is not happy about it. I dont want her stressing and killing the torch since it cost 10x what he cost. So if someone has to go, it is not going to be the torch haha.

I do not have a 2nd tank at the moment to move the clown into.

I've had this experience before. Do you have an anemone? My best guess would be to pick up the torch and put it in a basket. You could also try getting one of these for the torch.

Sadly clowns choose the host they want, and normally there is not much you can do about it. Sometimes you can put something in the tank that they decide they would rather choose as their host (in my experience they usually choose a long tentacle goniopora), but once they found a happy spot it is unlikely they will leave it. Too bad we dont have wireless fences for fish like we have for dogs :)

That is a good idea! Short term to see if it breaks the clowns desire and it finds a new spot. Torch needs more flow than that would give him over the longer term though.

Separating them from it is the only way - can’t host if there’s nothing to host! If you have a coral qt, you can move the torch for now.
My pair was hosting my indo (it didn’t mind), but I had to pull it because of phosphate issues (all my stony corals were acting up). They have since moved into my bta (apparently unaffected by the phos). We’ll see what happens after the torch goes back in…

I had this experience with two Ocellaris clowns also and eventually the torch was toast, even with more than 8 nems in that tank (at that time). Now a Goni is hosting my clowns and it doesn't seem to be causing any problems. In my other tank (200 g) i have a pair of bullet hole clowns, who have decided to host with a wall! They rub against it so much that all of the Coraline algae is gone in that area. Must be too much inbreeding LOL

This would not work the torch would be getting 0 flow

My two clowns took out a torch AND a clam, even though I have (4) nems. Clowns can be dumb most of the time haha

yea I have long gonies, Torches, frogspawns, acans and zoa's..
Maybe I will need to invest in a Nem and hope the idiot choses the Nem over my expensive torches.

i wanted some for my tank but i'm stocking it full of expensive torches so got advised against it
Yeah, you don't want clowns ruining your favourite Super Gold Tipped Indo LA Lakers Boston Celtics Holy Grail Aussie Torch you paid $1000 for, do you? XD

Worst case is that I get rid of the dumb clown. He came free with the tank from someone who was getting rid of it. My 2nd clown is a designer FroteBite clown. Fortunately he has not tried to host anything and hopefully does not ever try to.

Most expensive torch I have ever bought was $140.. but that is $140 more than I paid for that clownfish.
I get all my corals from Auctions and refuse to pay the absurd prices people ask for torches these days.

Im a big critic on the trade names of these corals mostly XD

I dont buy corals by name. Only by looks and what will contrast good with the others in my tank.
Looks and low price are my deciding factors haha

Honestly I sometimes think that the cheaper stuff looks better than the pricey-er stuff
