let face it, because of the names us hobbiest are coming up with, that increases the value of the zoo's. and probably sps. lps too

i pretty sure that when the divers sell to the wholesalers, its pretty much the same if you get a plain green as opposed to some other elaborate color. (correct me if i am wrong) However with us hobbies naming them LE etc it drives the price up super high, in which pet stores make a killing on them. just my opinion.

i agree that the more colorful ones do cost more due to supply and demand, however once you name it, it goes super high.

thoughts?

You dont want to be able to ID what you are buying? A name doesnt drive up the prices, the market does.

I swear this topic geats beaten around WAY too much. Either pay the price of the coral or don't buy it. You have to remember for every "le" peice, first the store/farmer has to have a good reputation to name it, but not only that they go through thousands of imported corals just to get a piece worthy of naming. The names, and the prices are usually deserved.

I think this has been one of the best reply's I've seen in one of these threads.

Naming is a bit out of hand, but it does help me keep track of my 60+ different colors of zoos. Its a lot easier to say "kedds redds" than point and say "the bright red one next to the darker red one close to the orange one with white eyes". lol

on a side note, with lineage, how do i really know that thats a Tyree, are there certifcates of authenticity? i mean really i can say i have a Tryee, from Jason Foxx, from copps, from etc... and sell it for more $'s but not truely a Tyree.
I dont care for names, if i like the coral, i'll buy it.

Cool, want to buy some pink zoas?

Now think of how many different types of pink zoas or palys there are. Much easier to say Rose Nebulas, Candy apple pink, pink zippers, etc.

this topic comes up everyday

I'm soooo tired of this topic.

BUT - Cut the poster some slack before we beat 'em up... Guppychao only has 8 posts. So he/she is probably so new to the board that he/she has never seen the endless discussions regarding this very same topic.

+1, sorry, much love guppy.

Welcome to the site OP. This topic is a sour one. Don't take the thread personally. The name game will never go away. Society names everything for identification purposes. That's just the way the world works. I have a name, i named my child, and even my car is called a camry.

We as a community have no one to blame but ourselves for high prices. If customers refuse to pay my prices i have no other choice to lower them. If i continue to make sales, them i'm on the money with my prices.

For the record, the wholesalers and import/exporters are catching on. More and more am i seeing names attached to corals.

I have been part of many and have seen many of threads on this same discussion. AC-you by far have made the BEST case for point I've seen.

I used to be opposed to the whole name business too...

But after taking in your post... you couldn't be more on point.

It's something that all hobbiest should get used to. Let's face it... the hobby (just like anything else) evolves. Especially with the advancements of technology (internet) that allows us to communicate to not just our neighbors... but to the rest of the world.

It used to be... go to the LFS (if you have one) or go to a friends house and pick what you want. You have to travel to go pick and choose. The pickings were slim back then.

Now... we have access to basically all corals available. We just sit down, turn on the computer and see what corals we want... then we order or trade online. Because of this... naming corals is needed. The naming allows us hobbiest to know exactly what we want to shop for and what we expect to get.

Not only does naming corals help us identify what we are looking for... it also helps us understand the care required. Not every zoa requires the same husbandry. By naming the zoas, we could easily identify the zoa... and people with the same zoa could help the new owner.

I agree it seems like it could get out of hand... but me being a collector... I kind of like the name game and I agree with another poster... it's not the name that jack's up the price... it's the supply and demand.
