Which is better? My last phosphate was reading .04 but my nitrates are 0 to 1 ppm. Is it necessary to increase my nitrates or just let it be? I don't really have any concerns of my coral.

if your corals are doing fine then let it be... I wouldn't go into dosing nitrate if you can help it. If nitrates aren't enough I would turn the skimmer off every now and then

If I had to choose between the two I probably cut back on skimming try a couple times a week I'm not big on adding nitrates and phosphates and such to my tank if this doesn't work then I would look into doing some other things

Such as?????

I would feed more or dose nitrate. I wouldn't turn off a skimmer due to low nutrients as it has many benefits, and I think nutrients isn't the main reason to use one anyway. Removal of organics (including toxins) and increased aeration are better reasons, (IMO).
