Stopping flow in the tank periodically

Anybody does this? What are the bennefits?

I do it mainly so that the fish have a less monotonous life and I cut the wave making at night to help them get a better rest.

I turn my mp40 on constant mode on the lowest setting at night to have a more calm tank for nighttime mainly believe it benefits the fish so they can rest.
